The successful
suppression of the various revolutionary outbreaks or disturbances following
the formal end of the Filipino-American. The involvement during the Military
Phase (1899-1913) Schurman commission was the first significant body created by
President Mckinley, with Jacob Schurman, president of Cornell University as
head. The cristian Filipinos, in the local levelwas the case of Negros Island
which had witnessed as early as 1898.Negros elite who eventually became the
stalvart of America rule. In the control government, the involvement of
Filipino elite in this level was represented by those who were appointed as
members of the Philippine Commission which performed executive and legislative
powers and function. Justice Arellano, who believed in the soverneity of the
United States over the Philippines.
There were two basic reasons for the
elite’s readiness to accept colonialism. Firstly, the natural fear of losing
the security of their interest because
of the growing demand of the masses for the redistribution of economic benefits
and resources. The reason was the basic orientation of the elite which felt
distrust in the integrity and character of the masses whom the elite regarded
as potential troublemakers, bandits,and
enemies of what they represented in society.
American teachers and missionaries
opened the path to an understanding of American benelovent policy through
schools, religious mission, and especially medical work. In their cultural communities, the
most effective instruments of the American educational policies was Dr. Najeeb
M. Saleeby,a medical practitioner turned educator. Charles R. Cameron, who
succeeded Najeeb SAleeby as Superintendent , continued the educational program
for the muslims.
In cordilleras, their was a conflict
between two Ifugao groups ((Sabangan and Hapao). Humiwat, the leader of an
Ifugao band that beheaded an American soldier, surrendered and offered his cooperation in the American
effort. The Bates Treaty guaranteed
peace between the Americans and Muslims in Sulu.
The Carpenter-Kiram agreement (1915),the main part of this
agreement was the reference that made to certain political facts and
realities as grounds for the unquestionable assumption by the United States of
sovereignty over all that pertained to the Sultanate.

Those who could run for the for the
office must be able to read and write, and must be property owners, or have been
government employees during the Spanish period. In effect, the election law already limited
participitation to the elite. There was an election happened but several were
Amricans. Filipinos looked back to the time as the emergence of a dynamic
Filipino leadership trying to create its own democratic form.
Honestly maam when I read this topic I didn’t fully understand what the happenings in this chapter but I have an opinion based on what I read.
TumugonBurahinIn my own opinion America were just pretending to the Philippines so that some Filipino will trust them. They threat the Filipino as their friends so that they can convince the Filipino’s heart to love and trust friend. American want to control Philippines so they take all the possibilities to be a good one in the front of the Filipino people but they have some plan to colonized again the Philippines.
American’s technique so that they can colonized easily the Philippines firstly, they were coopted the elite for colonial purposes .The elite did not stand being a true Filipino because they were easily shifting loyalty from being Filipino to American rule. Elite were no difficultly shifting, how much more an ordinary Filipino?
Since America were already handled the Philippines even in the school they want that their rule must follow. Whatever excellences the Filipino teachers done but they still remain in the hands of American teacher they can’t do anything without the permission of American teacher. How boastful they are?
But today, we are independent meaning that no one or no country has a right control with us. We’ve come to have our independence because of our heroes who fight for the Philippines freedom.
We colonized by Spain for nearly three hundred and thirty years but finally independence was granted on 1898. United States reached out there support to the Philippines until we celebrate our newly found independence ruled by Spain.
McKinley (the cartoon show president) taking the savage (the Philippines) and debating how to handle the country.”There was nothing left for us to do but to take them all and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift, and civilize, and Christianize them,” said President McKinley. The U.S took the Philippines as their personal responsibility.
The American followed their owned rule in the Philippines so that time there were denied employment happened and white inhabitants had more rights. The Filipino’s misunderstand Americans nice treatment to them. There were thinking pretentions and personal interest behind those help they received from them. However, American’s did not treat them these ‘’Anti-Filipino” feelings, which resulted in raids, and revolts and over all happiness.
Inspite of the Filipino doubt American’s continued helping the best they could. They adapted college or higher level education in the colony and taught them better ways to survive, and this time American’s begin to gain benefits.
Filipinazation was a compromise that allowed colonial authorities some government action. Elite citizens in the colony were elected as a member of the Philippine Commission which allowed to drafts acts and have potential say in the Government.
America helps the Philippines society, they teach us to read and other, and they do their best they could so that Filipino people will trust them and for that American will have the authority in the Philippines.
